Marie Louise (Kaempffe) Poll, 84

Marie Louise (Kaempffe) Poll passed away peacefully at Hospice of North Idaho on Monday, April 23, 2018. She was born on March 3, 1934, in Hackensack, N.J., to Louise (Murray) and Frederick Kaempffe. She was the eldest of four children: Fred Kaempffe Jr. (who preceded her in death in 2001), Claire Reavey and Karen Kaempffe. Marie graduated from Hingham High School in Hingham, Mass., and earned her nursing degree from Woman’s Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. She began her nursing career in Redwood City, Calif.

In 1957, Marie married Robert Frank Poll, settled in the Bonny Doon hills of Santa Cruz, Calif., and raised three children: Julie, Robert Jr. and Michael. As a young woman, Marie loved her farm, which included livestock and an abundant vegetable garden. She enjoyed canning produce and living off the land.

In her later years, she followed her children to live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Shady Cove, Ore., and Grand Junction, Colo. She returned to Coeur d’Alene in November 2017 and was living at The Courtyard at Coeur d’Alene Pacifica at the time of her death.

Marie was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie, in 2012. She is survived by her son-in-law, Robert (Susan) Gerwin of Watsonville, Calif., and her sons, Robert Poll of White City, Ore., and Michael (Dana) Poll of Grand Junction, Colo.

Marie leaves 10 grandchildren: Michelle (Seyd) Gerwin Havens, Claire Gerwin Nipps (Anthony, June 12, 1981 - April 7, 2018), Nicole (Daniel) Gerwin Cortes, Brianna Gerwin, Elizabeth Poll, Matthew Poll, Emma Poll, Whitney Poll, Callie Poll and Madalin Poll. She will also be missed by her five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was a gifted nurse, gardener, artist, writer and knitter. Her greatest passion was her Catholic faith and her Carmelite community, of which she was a Third Order member.

A Mass was celebrated in memory of Marie’s life by Father Dennis Gordon, FSSP, Pastor of St. Joan of Arc Church, in Coeur d’Alene, on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

The family wishes to thank The Courtyard at Coeur d’Alene Pacifica, Kootenai Health and Hospice of North Idaho, for the compassionate care given to Marie.
