AMERICA: Got to be good
The headline in the Sunday Press boldly proclaimed “Enough is Enough!” in reference to the recent “March For Our Lives” conducted across the country by hundreds of thousands of American “youths.” Of the students who even knew what they were protesting about, it’s interesting that they were protesting the symptom of the problem, instead of the problem itself. That problem is the decay of the moral fiber of this country.
God has been taken out of schools and our society, and in His place, what has filled the void? The situation reminds me of the character Marcellus, in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” when he said: “Something is rotten in the State of Denmark.” Yet students are strangely silent about this rot, including the absence of God; the redefinition of the family unit; the persecution and vilification of Christians; the proliferation of violent video games, movies and literature.
Then, in the same breath, they say “something has to be done.” The marchers Saturday cited Parkland, Newtown, Sandy Hook, among others. Ironically, many of those same students are ignorant of Lexington, Concord, Saratoga, Bunker Hill and Yorktown, battles in a war which would have been lost without an ARMED citizenry willing to sacrifice themselves for Liberty.
French statesman Alexis de Tocqueville once said that “America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” Folks, if America continues down her errant path, she will one day cease to exist altogether.
