Post Falls High seniors Jake Pfennigs and Melody Kempton were named 5A boys and girls Players of the Year, respect-ively, as the Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise announced its all-Idaho teams.

Pfennigs, a 6-foot-7 senior wing who has signed to play baseball at Oregon State, averaged 17.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

“I think most teams just told themselves, ‘Hey, Jake is going to get his, so we just need to stop the other players,’” Mountain View coach Jon Nettleton told the Statesman.

Kempton, who has signed with Gonzaga, led the Trojans to a state title by averaging 16.0 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 blocks, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game. She is Post Falls’ career leader in points (1,486), rebounds (892) and blocked shots (211).

“Melody has incredible natural athleticism, incredible career numbers and an incredible motor,” Capital coach Blas Telleria told the paper.
