MEXICO: Don't want war

| March 23, 2018 1:00 AM

According to the Watson Institution of Public and International Affairs at Brown University, every taxpayer in the Untied States would owe $23,386 if we averaged out the total cost of the wars from 9/11 to present. That’s nearly half the average median household income ($43,770) of those living in Coeur d’Alene.

I was emotionally inclined to promulgate my immense ire at the suggestion to “declare war on Mexico,” but then decided to do some research instead and let the facts outweigh the irrational thought of someone who is merely stating his opinion.

“Those who wish to declare war better be willing to sign on to active duty,” said Robert Steele, who was a Marine from 1952-1957, later sergeant for the LAPD’s Metropolitan Division (SWAT) during Watts riots, Secret Service and lieutenant of detectives of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office of 1979. “Only a fool would wish another war.”

I would implore Richard, and those who simplify complex issues with such cavalier ideas to first seek other more sensible routes.

Let’s implement the current laws, address the issue of what is causing such an influx of drugs in our country and begin on an individual level in our community to remedy these issues. If drugs are what you see causing such an immense problem from the south, then perhaps volunteer at a mission, support your local church programs.

Richard, please be willing to be charitable with your own time and resources before you are so hastened to be so charitable as to put young men and women on the front lines of another war.
