Joan Gewecke, 91

Joan Gewecke, 91, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born Feb. 1, 1927, to Randall and Hattie (Evens) Crisp, in Kellogg, Idaho.

She grew up in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School in 1945. She had some odd jobs and worked in a car dealership in Spokane. She attended the Northwest Nazarene University, in Nampa, Idaho, for a short time. She returned to Spokane and met Harlan Gewecke, the love of her life, while roller skating. They were married on July 6, 1948, at the Hitching Post in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Their married life took them to Iowa, and out to California.

In 1970, the family moved to Coeur d’Alene, where Joan has been for 48 years. Joan was a filter of life. When trouble would come her way she would pray and it would always be better. She always liked to talk about God and would never argue someone else’s faith. She would just smile and pray for them. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She walked with God all her life. Now Harlan and her walk hand in hand with God everyday. She liked to tell you how to drive and could see better than the driver even when she was in the back seat. She raised her boys with love and affection everyday, and she is very proud of the men they became.

Joan is preceded by death of her husband, Harlan Gewecke, along with siblings Lorraine Steiner, Virginia Martin and Eugene Crisp. Joan was married for 68 years and blessed with four boys, Danny (Patti) of Lake Havasu, Ariz. and their sons, Tim (Heather) and Rusty (Joanne); Rick (Debi) of Rathdrum, Idaho and their kids, Christy (Casey), Sheri (Jim), Johnny and Sarah (Coldon); Bobby (Lara) of Coeur d’Alene and their kids, Casey (Jessica), AnnaLecia, Jenny (Jared) and Doug; Earl (Sue) of Athol, Idaho and their son, Austin. Joan was further blessed with many awesome great-grand kids.

Mother, rest in peace with love, your family.
