Body ID is Larry Isenberg

COEUR d’ALENE — The body of a man found March 1 in Lake Coeur d’Alene is confirmed to be Larry Isenberg, who had been missing since a February outing on the lake.

Kootenai County Coroner Warren Keene said Wednesday that the man found near Sun-Up Bay after an extensive search by the sheriff’s office was Isenberg, 68, who was reported missing by his wife, Laurcene “Lori” Barnes Isenberg. Keene said Isenberg’s autopsy — autopsies take six to eight weeks — has not been completed.

Lori Isenberg, who is charged with embezzling money from a local nonprofit in a separate case, told authorities her husband fell from the couple’s boat into the lake at Powderhorn Bay on the east side near Harrison.

Her husband had been attempting to fix an electric trolling motor on the front of the boat when he went overboard, Isenberg told authorities.

Powderhorn Bay is approximately 3 miles east of where the body was recovered after a resident called 911 and reported what appeared to be a body floating face down in the water.

Sun-Up Bay, on the west side of the lake, is where Isenberg told deputies she and Larry had launched their boat in the early hours Feb. 13, so they could be alone and watch the sun rise. They motored across the lake to Powderhorn Bay, where Isenberg said her husband fell into the water.

The incident occurred several hours after The Press reported that Isenberg’s employer, the nonprofit North Idaho Housing Coalition, had severed ties with her and was conducting a financial audit.

Isenberg was arrested Monday, Feb. 26, and charged with one count of felony grand theft. Her $75,000 bond was posted the next day before she was released from the Kootenai County Jail.

Incidents surrounding Larry Isenberg’s initial disappearance are being investigated by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, while Coeur d’Alene Police detectives took over the investigation into the allegations of embezzlement. A preliminary hearing status conference for Isenberg is scheduled March 30 in Coeur d’Alene First District Court.
