Learn about Lewis and Clark's Idaho journey on Thursday

| March 21, 2018 1:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — The community is invited to learn about Lewis and Clark in Idaho during a presentation in the Coeur d'Alene Public Library at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The lecture, presented by resident historian Robert Singletary, will begin with the Lewis and Clark Expedition on July 15, 1805, just after they spent a month traveling around the Great Falls on the Missouri River, and will end on Oct. 10, 1805 as they head west on the Snake River.

The first part of the lecture will focus on the expedition's time with the Shoshone Indians trying to secure horses, information and a guide to lead them over the Bitterroot Mountains.

The major part of the program will be about the most difficult part of the expedition — the 11 days it took to cross the Bitterroot Mountain Range.

Singletary takes most of his information from the Lewis and Clark journals and from the time he actually spent on the expedition's route during the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial celebration.

The free presentation is a part of the Northwest Milestones Lecture Series that is sponsored by the library and the Museum of North Idaho.

The library is located at 702 E. Front Ave.
