Lake City boys, girls golf teams second in Lewiston

| March 20, 2018 1:39 AM

LEWISTON — After an early-morning frost delay, North Idaho golf teams had some early-season competition on Monday at the Lewiston Invitational tournament.

In boys play, the host Bengals (324) won the team title ahead of their three 5A Inland Empire League rivals — Lake City (327), Coeur d’Alene (329) and Post Falls (335). The Timberwolves had four scores in the low 80s, led by Ryan Chapman (80).

“Overall we showed some great improvement from last week,” Lake City boys coach Troy Anderson said. “I was impressed with how we bounced back from some tough holes early on.”

CHS junior Brayden Ogle earned medalist honors, firing a 76, while teammate Austin Mitchell shot 80.

“Brayden had 14 pars and four bogeys, which is a real good day for this early in the year,” Vikings coach Bryan Duncan said.

Tanner Byers led the Post Falls boys with a 79 as the Trojans finished fourth among 12 teams.

- In girls play, host Lewiston took the team title with a 368, followed by Lake City’s 379. Sami Dement led the Timberwolves, carding an 89.

“The girls struggled a little today, mostly with our short game,” Lake City girls coach Corey Owen said. “I think we are still trying to shake off the rust. It is a hard-working group of young ladies so I know we will continue to get better.”

Post Falls finished fifth with a team score of 443. Renee Mosby shot a 95 for the Trojans.

Area golf teams are off next week for spring break, and resume action April 4 at the University of Idaho golf course in Moscow.
