Bradbury powers Lakeland past Colville for sweep

| March 18, 2018 1:00 AM

COLVILLE — Dylan Bradbury struck out six over five innings in the first game, then drove in five runs in the nightcap to lead the Lakeland Hawks to a 10-2 and 17-6 sweep of the Colville Indians on Saturday afternoon.

“Dylan pitched a great game and had excellent control,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “Dylan broke the game open in the sixth inning (of the second game) with a bases-clearing double to right center. It was nice to see the guys squaring the ball up and hitting gaps.”

Colton Aragon had three hits in the second game for Lakeland (3-2), which travels to West Valley on Tuesday.

CHATTAROY, Wash. — Gage Benefield struck out three over three innings and Jacob James hit a two-run single in the fourth inning to push the Tigers past the Rams.

“Our pitching staff did a great job today,” said Timberlake coach Cameron Knigge, whose team opened with a pair of losses at Clarkson on Thursday. “Gage came out and pitched three really strong innings for us. He made them put the ball in play and we didn’t make an error. Zach (Larsen) caught a phenomenal game and blocked everything in the dirt. Jacob, who hasn’t played since the sixth grade, came up with no outs and hit a rope to the outfield to score two runs. Our bats woke up a little bit today.”

Seth Villanpando and Dustin Smith had two hits each for Timberlake (1-2), which is scheduled to host St. Maries in a doubleheader next Saturday.

Post Falls drops

two in Tri-Cities

Nate Buer had three hits against Kennewick and Caden Cripps and Matt Fleming had two hits each against Kamiakin, but the Trojans fell 13-5 and 8-3 respectively.

Brock Zeller hit a two-run single in the third inning to open the scoring against Kennewick, which scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally.

“They were just hitting the ball,” Post Falls coach Mick Zeller said. “We’re just not sharp defensively yet. They’re plays we’ve just got to make, and didn’t this weekend. We did a better job offensively and we’d get a sacrifice fly and do some good fundamental baseball things.”

Kamiakin scored four runs in the second and third inning to pull away in the Trojans’ second game of the day.

Post Falls (1-3) competes in the North/South tournament starting on Friday in Lewiston.
