Kroc Center to award 10 scholarships to students

| March 17, 2018 1:00 AM

The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene will award $10,000 in scholarships to worthy students this spring.

The Dr. Riggs Leadership Scholarship was created in 2013 by The Salvation Army Kroc Center Executive Staff and Advisory Board to honor Jack T. Riggs, M.D., for a lifetime of leadership excellence and to acknowledge and reward a high school senior for exhibiting leadership traits and capabilities.

“We are proud to have awarded $10,000 to local high school seniors in the past five years to students from Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Hayden and throughout Kootenai County,” says Kroc Executive Director Maj. Ben Markham. “This year we plan to be able to award up to 10 students with a $1,000 scholarship to help them further their education in the technical, trade or academic program of their choice.”

Applicants who will graduate from high school this spring are welcome to apply from any of Idaho’s five northern counties. Criteria for the award include the following: plans to further their formal education and sound examples of their leadership at school, at work, in the community, or within the home.

The Salvation Army Advisory Board will review applications and will notify recipients mid-April. Recipients and their parents will be invited to the Kroc Center to receive the scholarship on May 10 as part of the Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders event at The Kroc Center. This will include an exclusive reception with the event’s guest speaker Tony Thompson, nationally renowned leader and former CEO of Krispy Kreme Donuts.

Interested applicants can apply online at www.kroccda.org/leadership through Friday, March 23.
