Nome Polites, 93

Nome Polites, 93, a longtime resident of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away July 14, 2017, in Edmonds, Wash., after a long life filled with hard work, the normal heartbreaks, abundant love and a tight-knit family.

She was born May 9, 1924, and graduated from Kingman High School, in Kingman, Kan. She attended secretarial school in Wichita and worked at the Carpenter’s Union during World War II. She was a strong, independent career woman and mother and enjoyed her later work in medical records and collections in Spokane, Wash., and at the Post Falls Senior Center. She loved being outside, working in her yard and boating.

She married her husband, George Polites, Nov. 30, 1946, and they waltzed through life together until his death in 1990.

The next to youngest of eight children, Nome was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and a brother. She is survived by her only child, Jan Schrag, and son-in-law, Greg Schrag; her two grandchildren, Brittney and Kevin Schrag; three nieces and a nephew.

Nome’s remains were interred with her husband, George, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens following her cremation.

There will be an informal celebration of Nome’s life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Post Falls Senior Center, 1215 E. Third Ave., Post Falls, ID 83854. Light snacks and beverages will be served. To honor Nome’s preferred dress of “dungarees,” attire will be casual.
