COEUR d’ALENE — Kodie Kolden struck out nine over four hitless innings, also finishing with an RBI and three runs scored as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lakeland Hawks 10-0 in a nonleague game on Thursday afternoon at Lake City High.

Kolden combined with Brandon Gay to no-hit the Hawks, who opened the season last Saturday at Lewiston.

“Kodie pitched extremely well, and then Brandon came in and had two walks, struck out two, and got a ground ball to third,” Lake City coach Paul Manzardo said. “There was only three balls hit off the bat. Kodie threw extremely well for this early in the season. He’s a horse and an extremely good baseball player.”

Connor Conigliaro and Dylan Brum drove in two runs each for Lake City in its season opener.

Lake City travels to Moscow on Tuesday for a doubleheader.

Lakeland (1-2) travels to Colville on Saturday for a doubleheader.

Walla Walla 3-7

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Michael Dooley and Levi Haen had two RBIs each for the Vikings in the first game of a split with the Blue Devils.

Brady Thompson had two hits for Coeur d’Alene in the opener.

“Michael, he’s really been stepping up this season,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “Levi got a big hit to open up that inning and I think we scored all five of our runs in that inning with two outs. We played solid defense and had really good team hitting. We definitely got better in that game.”

In the nightcap, Coeur d’Alene left 12 runners on base in a loss.

“We just couldn’t get the timely hit,” Mahin said. “We played a great 11 innings of baseball, but then got complacent. We didn’t get the big hit when we needed it. Ultimately, we got better, but learned a lot from that second game.”

Coeur d’Alene (1-2) returns to action against Hillcrest and Clarkston next Friday in the North/South tournament in Lewiston.
