Climbing on air

Seven firefighters from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department participated in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on March 11.

They ascended 69 floors in full firefighter gear to get to the top of the Columbia Center in Seattle, all to raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

This year's team raised more than $18,000 for the cause, with one final fundraiser coming up.

On March 22, those who visit the Anchored Coffee Company at 451 Dalton Ave. in the parking lot of Skate Plaza in Coeur d'Alene will have the opportunity to purchase a $10 Stairclimb fundraiser mug filled with a 16-ounce drink, while supplies last.

“I can’t thank you enough for the support we get from our department to participate in this event," Coeur d'Alene firefighter Scott Robinson wrote to Fire Chief Kenny Gabriel. "I have seen first-hand how this fundraiser touches lives affected by blood cancers."

If people want to donate, they can text “helplls” to 414-44 and put Coeur d'Alene in the dedication line.
