BROOKS: There for us

| March 16, 2018 1:00 AM

This past weekend as I was cruising around Facebook on my computer, a pop-up message appeared on my screen without a warning. It told me my computer had been seriously compromised. I needed to call a toll-free number given to allow them to clean out the invader as soon as possible, or they would have to close out my account and lock down my computer before any of my contacts became infested.

I read the entire message twice. Finally, out of fear, I called the number, and supposedly the company known as Tectronix LLC cleaned the culprit out of my computer and gave me a number to call if I needed help again within the next year. My Visa card was being charged $149.99.

Tuesday I got a phone message with exactly the same threat, but the number to call was different. I dug out my latest copy of The Press and found the contact information for Bill Brooks. I emailed my story to him and later in the day got a message back advising me to contact my credit card company immediately and ask them to put that charge “in contest”, which I did. The company was great and took care of everything.

Thank you Coeur d’Alene Press, for printing Bill Brooks’ great column, and thank you again, Bill Brooks, for the wonderful work you are doing!
