Vanessa Shippy

Oklahoma State softball

Shippy, a second second baseman from Lake City High, was named the College Sports Madness National Field Player of the Week. It is the second time this season that Shippy, a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year candidate, has been named the national player of the week, after previously earning the honor on March 13 following an incredible display at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.

She joins Florida pitcher Kelly Barnhill as the only players in the country to be named the Madness National Pitcher/Field Player of the Week more than once so far this season. Shippy is also the first Cowgirl in Oklahoma State’s illustrious history to be named the national player of the week on multiple occasions. In the Oklahoma State Hall of Fame Classic this past weekend, Shippy posted a 5-for-7 line at the plate, drew 10 walks, scored nine times, drove in four runs, smacked three extra-base hits and stole two bases during the five-game invitational.

Shippy was also named Big 12 Player of the Week, becoming the first Cowgirl since Anna Whiddon in 2010 to earn the conference honor twice in the same season. Oklahoma State is 21-6 this season.
