SPOKANE — Michael Dooley drove in a pair of runs in the seventh inning for Coeur d’Alene, but a six strikeout showing by Mason Wells helped lead the Mead Panthers past the Vikings 4-2 in the nonleague opener for both schools on Tuesday afternoon.

Mead outhit Coeur d’Alene 10-3 in the game, which was moved to Spokane due to poor field conditions at Coeur d’Alene High.

“We just had one bad inning and were a little flat,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “We came alive in the final inning and put something together, but just hit it right at someone.”

Coeur d’Alene travels to Walla Walla for a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 2 p.m.
