NIC outlasts Everett in 2 OTs

EVERETT, Wash. — RayQuan Evans scored 47 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 56 seconds left in double overtime, as North Idaho College outlasted Everett Community College 112-110 in the quarterfinals of the Northwest Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament late Sunday night.

NIC (23-8), the third seed from the East Region, will play Portland (26-5), the top seed from the South Region, in the semifinals next Saturday at 4 p.m. at Everett.

Gio Jackson scored 35 points for Everett (26-5), the top seed from the North Region.

Everett led 71-67 with 11.5 seconds left in regulation. Tyler Brimhall’s driving layup for NIC cut the lead to two. Everett turned the ball over on the inbounds pass, and Aushanti Potts-Woods scored on a putback with .3 seconds remaining to force overtime.

Potts-Woods added 25 for NIC.

NIC jumped out to a seven-point lead in overtime, and still led by four with 17 seconds left.

Everett answered with two free throws, then after NIC missed two free throws with 6.4 seconds left, Gio Jackson drove the length of the court to tie it at the buzzer and force a second overtime.

EVERETT, Wash. — RayQuan Evans totaled 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and six steals as North Idaho College broke out to a big lead in beating Lower Columbia in the first round of the Northwest Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament late Saturday night at Everett Community College.

Jarod Greene added 17 points for NIC (22-8), which led by as much as 28 points in the second half before Lower Columbia (20-9) pulled to within 10 points.

NIC, the third seed from the East Region shot 56.5 percent (35 of 62) from the field. Lower Columbia, the second seed from the West Region, shot 35.6 percent (21 of 59).

Brandon Cotton led Lower Columbia with 17 points.
