CLARKSTON, Wash. — While snow piles remain on North Idaho golf courses, high school golfers enjoyed sunny weather and green grass at Monday’s season-opening Clarkston Invitiational.

Braden Ogle’s 77 led the Coeur d’Alene boys team to a second-place finish among 14 teams. The Vikings tallied 326 strokes, 30 points behind Gonzaga Prep, which won the boys’ title with a 296 team score.

“I’ve been going to this tournament for 16 years and that’s the best team score I’ve ever seen. They’re loaded,” CHS coach Bryan Duncan said.

“I was real happy with our performance, especially being the first time on grass this season. All our kids played well,” Duncan added.

The Coeur d’Alene girls team had only three golfers compete as Vikings golfer, Maddie Morris will miss the season due to a knee injury.

Lake City’s Kyla Currie fired an 85 to lead the Timberwolves to a 386 team score, good for second place out of nine teams.

Cameron Johnson’s 83 led Lake City to a 340 team score, placing the Timberwolves fifth out of 12 teams.

The Post Falls boys placed sixth, just behind Lake City, as Cameron Flores paced the Trojans with an 80.

Post Falls did not field a complete girls team.

Area golfers will compete in the Lewiston Invitational next Monday.
