WALKOUT: Just try this

| March 9, 2018 12:00 AM

Regarding the school walkout scheduled March 14, I would offer an alternative. In conjunction with Tom Hearn, Lisa May, Dave Eubanks, Bruce Twitchell and Stanley Olson, I suggest a letter could be sent to the parents of all our high school students. The letter would state something to the effect that since the latest national school system ratings place Idaho either 46th or 48th in the nation, we as a school board cannot condone this demonstration and disruption of classes. We, the board, suggest that these students be informed that any such demonstration should be held after the last class for the day or on Saturday.

Folks, take a wild guess as to how many of the little darlings would show up. For those students who do walk out on the 14th, they would be marked absent without permission.

The board members and students should wake up to the fact that Idaho schools rate so poorly nationally and should concentrate on raising our standards for students and teachers all the way up to mediocre. School unions are killing the systems.
