Honoring one of the really good guys
Bob Hubof is a hometown guy who’s had a big impact in our community. Bob grew up in Post Falls, graduating from PFHS in 1968. After graduating from the University of Idaho he began his 35-year teaching career at Seltice Elementary before spending three decades at Ponderosa Elementary. Generations of children learned from and loved Mr. Hubof. He was also a volunteer at the Post Falls Fire Department for many years.
Bob might be almost as well-known for over two decades spent with the Post Falls Lions Club. A second generation Lion, his late father, Frank Hubof, was a charter member of the Post Falls club nearly six decades ago. Up until just a few years ago, when his health began to decline, every October you could find Bob manning the ticket booth at the Lions Haunted House. He helped raise money for sight and hearing for those in need in the community.
Bob is a little person. While dwarfism is his reality, his height has never defined him. It’s his heart, his humor and his ability to connect with people of any age or size that is the measure of the man. Last week Lions International recognized Bob Hubof with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship for his humanitarian work.
Congratulations Bobby! Good guys finish first, as it should be.

Tartar sauce trivia: Rob’s Seafood & Burgers, which has graced the southwest corner of Seltice and Spokane Street for 45 years, makes 15 pounds of homemade tartar sauce every four days. I wonder how many fast food places make their own tartar sauce?

Happy birthday today to my much younger sister Janna Scharf, who shares a birth date with Heidi Rogers, Jaime Jaworski, Todd Gilkey, Wayne Larson, James Barfoot and Julie Sandstrom. Tomorrow Cyndie Hammond, Lisa Ferguson, Robert Page, Linda Koehler, Joni Morrow, Chelsea MacEntee, Kylie MacEntee and Veronicka Peacock will celebrate. On Friday Karen Roetter, Bob Frazey, Keith Van Slate, Debbie Myles, Joyce Connolly and Megan Round take another trip around the sun. Nancy Frazey, Mary Akers and Jon Dingman will blow out the birthday candles on Saturday. Jim Booth, Ed Robar, Clay Larkin, Heather Callahan, Mindy Newby, Jim Faucher, Travis Jank and Rachel Burkhardt turn another page on the calendar on Sunday. DeAnn Johnson, Will Henderson, Sylvia McCormick, Josh Vesser, Faith Hazard Wiley, Ali Hanson, Kim Maksen, Jan Daugharty, John Neirinckx, Christel Fredericks and David Wegner will have their cake and eat it, too, on Monday.
