SYSTEM: Here's your problem

| March 4, 2018 12:00 AM

It is a blessing that Officer Charles Hatley is recovering from being shot. This shooting and the killing of Sgt. Greg Moore should be a sign of a problem that has not been solved. I was in law enforcement many years ago and left because of the system.

The system is the revolving door, or as it has been called in the military, “make work.” The bleeding heart court system reduces or suspends sentences of repeat offenders or lets sentences run concurrently. That guarantees work for everyone from the courts to the police officers. They need a three strikes and you are out so criminals spend the rest of their life in prison.

Whether it is drugs or mental illness, society has to be protected from these people, and many will never be helped by the bleeding hearts. How many more people will be disabled or killed before the system changes?

I respect all those in law enforcement who have been able to continue to serve in spite of the system and am glad that Curtis Ware is where he belongs.

When will the system understand that reduced sentences are not good for the protection of society? When will state governments understand that marijuana is a gateway drug that leads to other drug use and eventually to death and murder? Is the tax revenue from marijuana worth it?
