ANNIVERSARY
Clifford and Rhoda Schlehuber
70th Anniversary
Jan. 7, 2018, was 70 years after Rhoda Lockert of Toppenish, Wash., and Clifford Schlehuber of Tensed were married in Coeur d’Alene to begin their long married life.
Cliff worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Salmon, then Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry; transferring to the Fish & Wildlife Service and living on the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge in Nampa. They later worked on the U.S. Trumpeter Swan Refuge 30 miles east of Monida, Mont.
Son Dale was born in Caldwell and later, son Dane was born in Spokane, where Cliff worked for Hasse Drywall Co. Rhoda worked for Dix Steel Buildings in Spokane, but also had worked for Bonner County School District in Sandpoint; then for the Probate Judge and Prosecuting Attorney Watt E. Prather in Bonners Ferry. She also was legal secretary for the Gigray & Boyd Firm in Caldwell.
After moving to Billings, Mont., in 1956, Cliff did drywall contracting; Rhoda worked as a legal secretary for the Crowley Law Firm (the largest firm in Montana). Later, she worked for First Bank in Billings and then, as Administrative Officer to Bob Waller, president of First Interstate Bank in Billings until retiring 22 years ago.
Upon retiring, Rhoda worked many years as a volunteer for the Billings Clinic PALS desk and also for RSVP helping seniors with tax returns. The family did a lot of hunting and fishing, as well as water skiing and putting on water ski shows in the Billings area. They now have two grandsons, one granddaughter, plus step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandsons.
Since moving back to North Idaho, Rhoda enjoys her yard and many flowers, and walking Tori, the Brittany spaniel.
Their 70th anniversary was spent with Rhoda in the hospital, so this spring the family plans to enjoy a picnic or special event with family in Billings and Columbus, Mont.
ENGAGEMENT
Thomas-Ginter
Laurie Thomas is pleased to announce the engagement of her daughter, Amanda Kimberly Thomas, both of Coeur d’Alene, to Neil Michael Ginter, son of Robin and Steve Anthony, all of Post Falls.
Amanda is a student at the University of Idaho pursuing her bachelor’s degree in early childhood developmental education. Neil graduated from Lake City High School in 2006. He is employed by Albertson’s.
The couple will be united in marriage at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Elk Point.
BIRTH
Troy James Ledford was born at 10:14 p.m. Feb. 22, 2018, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene to Joy Suzanne (McKibbin) and Troy Joshua Ledford of Post Falls. He weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Michael and Martha McKibbin of Rathdrum. Paternal grandparents are Tony and Jill Ledford of Worley. Great-grandparents are Kirk and Jeannine Crum of Coeur d’Alene, and Cliff and Peggy Ledford of Richland, Wash.
MILESTONE BIRTHDAY
Norman E. Meyer
90th Birthday
Norman E. Meyer, a true Idaho native, turned 90 on March 2, 2018. Norman resides, with his wife, Doris, at the family farm on the Rathdrum Prairie, where he was born. Meyer Road is named for his family.
Norman graduated from Rathdrum High School in 1946, where he played basketball, was in the band and drama class. That summer he began a 36-year career with Kaiser Aluminum until he retired 36 years ago.
He also maintained the farm, raising cattle, chickens, alfalfa, wheat oats, rye and an occasional horse for the kids. Norman spent his holidays and vacations planting or harvesting.
Norman has volunteered for many community activities. He was a member of the “football chain gang” for many years at Lakeland games and has been an active Lions Club Member for decades. Norman has also sang and played country music on his guitar for more than 60 years.
Though most of the farm has been passed on to his children or sold and developed, Norman still spends part of each day doing chores including feeding the horse and barn cats.
Norman continues to set the example of honesty, integrity and hard work for his six grown children: Corky, Marilyn, Dale, Debbie, Mike and Doreen. He is loved and respected by his family and numerous friends.
