GOD: Just a reminder

| March 2, 2018 12:00 AM

Back in the early 1990s, I was driving to Coeur d’Alene from a business trip to the Seattle area. To reduce the evening boredom, I turned on my radio expecting to hear music; instead, a minister began by asking his audience: “Do you ever think of God during the day?” That caught my attention and he began to outline our many distractions. In closing, he suggested that, when I awoke from sleep in the morning, I begin my day by silently saying, “Jesus loves me.” Thank you, reverend.

I arrived home safely and the next day, while assembling my business report, thought of the minister’s words. I smiled to myself, repeated his thoughts, and reached for a Bible on my office bookshelf. It was a beautiful book, silver embossed “Holy Bible” on the finest Moroccan leather, the pages were edged with silver; however, it was dusty with little sign of use. I wiped it clean and placed it on my desk by my daily planner.

Nearly every evening since, I have ended my day by studying its silver pages. The silver emboss is no longer visible, the leather cover is pitted from hand wear and the pages are stained by oils from my fingers. My wife of 63 years asked me why I didn’t get a new Bible. My answer was, I never replace things I love.

Do you ever think of God during the day? Jesus loves you!
