DOGS: Losing a good friend

| June 29, 2018 1:00 AM

Well, now our popular dog park, Central Bark, has been bought by Grace Bible Church. I do not recall the sale of the park being presented to the public for our input. Instead, it seems to me, the city needed money to put toward the rehabilitation of Northwest Boulevard so sold the popular park.

Perhaps not enough outrage over the sale was displayed, so sell it they did!

It did not concern downtown Coeur d’Alene so, evidently, didn’t command that much attention by the city. After all, tourists are mostly concerned about downtown, so put the focus there at the expense of the dog park.

There is plenty of room north of the park for the church without impinging upon our little haven for pet fun. I guess that was not important to the city. And evidently Grace Bible Church doesn’t care that it is evicting us from our beloved park.

With the sale evidently going through, it would be nice if the church donated the dog park to the city and built on the large vacant area north of it. But something tells me that won’t happen. There’s no money in it.

Editor’s note: The city did not sell the property to Grace Bible Church. In late 2014, the Coeur d’Alene School District sold the property to the church, which has been kind enough to allow Central Bark to continue operating as a city park since then. Central Bark opened in 2010 as a cooperative effort of the school district and the city.
