Prairie battles back, splits with Lewis-Clark

LEWISTON — The Prairie Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning of the second game, then held on to beat the Lewis-Clark Twins 10-9 to split their class AA North Idaho League doubleheader Tuesday night at Harris Field.

Lewis-Clark (4-13, 1-3 NIL) won the first game 11-8.

In the second game, Seth Villanpando’s RBI double in the top of the seventh for Prairie (4-12, 1-3) tied the game at 8. Tanner McCliment-Call and Matt Fleming followed with RBI singles for a 10-8 lead.

Lewis-Clark scored once in the bottom of the seventh, and had runners at second and third with two out, when Villanpando struck out the next batter looking to end the game.

In the first game, Prairie trailed 7-1 before battling back with three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to tie it at 7. McCliment-Call tripled in Brock Zeller, and McCliment-Call also scored on the play, to tie the game. Zeller scored three runs for the Cardinals, and Harrison Reid had two hits.

Lewis-Clark scored four in the bottom of the sixth, triggered by Hayden Woods’ tiebreaking two-run double.

Prairie is scheduled to begin play today at the Best of the Northwest wood-bat tourney.

COEUR d’ALENE — Marcus Manzardo scored on a wild pitch with two out in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen to a 7-6 victory over the Northern Lakes Mountaineers in class A North Idaho League play Monday at Thorco Field.

Manzardo reached on an error to lead off the 12th, advanced to second base on a passed ball and moved up to third on a groundout.

Jackson Scheer had two hits and scored twice for Coeur d’Alene.

Louis Powell hit a two-run double in the fourth inning for Northern Lakes. Jack McDowell hit a two-run homer in the sixth for the Mountaineers.
