Kelly Park Stenlund

Kelly Park Stenlund was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on Aug. 4, 1955, to Darlene Mikesell and Parker Newcomb. He is preceded in death by his mother, Darlene; his in-laws, James and Beryl Stover and his father-in-love, De Hibdon. He is survived by his wife, Tammie Stover; daughters, Erin (Dale) and Miranda (Matt); the mother of his children, Sinay Butler and their children, Sean, Carolee (Cory), Thad (Chablis) and Kalysta (Chris); and his 15 grandchildren, Skylar, Austin, Addysanne, Seanna, Kalia, Karissa, Elijah, Iszekial, Anjoulie, Amelia, Rilynne, Madelyn, Preston, Cami and Cooper. Kelly leaves behind four biological brothers, Scott, Luke, Bart and Gavin; sister, Melissa; father, Parker; step-mother, Mary and sister-in-law, Candie Stover. Throughout his life, he added a mother, Deanna Hibdon; brothers, Darin, Dan, Rod, Rodger, Bobby and Marcus; sister, Dea and a son, Chris Stein.

Kelly grew up in Salt Lake City, Seattle, Black Foot, and construction sites all over the world. He attended trade school as a young man to become a welder and pipefitter. He was acknowledged as a master in his trade and as a skilled artist of his craft. He achieved his welding inspector certification and was becoming a master in the quality control arena; most recently working at the Spokane Wastewater Treatment Facility for Slayden Construction. He took pride in his work, worked hard, and trained and developed younger tradesmen.

There was never a moment when Kelly wasn’t ready to throw down a hot hand of dice, stomp your butt at cribbage or taunt you while playing any game. In spite of his considerable skill at almost any game, he was gracious and sportsmanlike in wins and losses. He hated to golf and played it whenever he could. Kelly loved warm weather and being with his large extended family. He was especially happy having his wife, Tammie, on his arm while hanging out with their dog, Luzy, and cat, Frank.

On June 6, 2018, in Post Falls, Idaho, Kelly felt he could no longer carry this earthly burden and ended his own life. Kelly struggled with many things, but his love of Jesus was not one of them. While we mourn deeply for him, we also rejoice in knowing that his pain has ended and that he is with his Savior. While heaven is sweeter, we have suffered an inconsolable loss, and the sun shines less brightly today. The knowledge of our eventual reunion sustains us.

“We love you Old Man, see you when we see you.”
