BORDER: Humanity caveat

| June 27, 2018 1:00 AM

Although President Trump reversed his policy of purposely separating families at the border, his administration still treats attempted border crossing as a crime worse than child abuse.

Migrant children are placed with foster parents who know nothing of the child’s history of vaccinations, allergies, etc. A Denver physician, who has treated separated migrant children, said they are inconsolable. They refuse to interact with people or their surroundings, or even with toys. “Every time the foster mothers tried to move them, so I could examine them, the kids would scream, scream, scream, and just claw at their foster mothers.”

Migrant parents are treated worse than convicted child abusers. The physician pointed out that in most circumstances, parents convicted of child abuse still “have the right to know where their kids are, and they have the right to know who’s taking care of them, and they have processes they go through to get their kids back.” Migrant parents cannot obtain this information, nor are they accorded these rights.

We must resolve to elect politicians who can protect our border without violating human rights.
