POST FALLS — A 55-year-old man was listed in critical condition Monday night after he was rescued from a burning vehicle earlier in the day by emergency responders.

Valentino Nunez of Post Falls was traveling north on Corbin Road, between Poleline and Prairie avenues, around 10 a.m. Monday when his car left the road and crashed into a patch of rocks and trees just north of Hargrave Avenue, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The vehicle caught fire and Nunez was unable to get out of the burning 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup, KCSO reported. Deputies and members of Kootenai County Fire and Rescue were able to extricate Nunez, who was transported to Kootenai Health.

Kootenai Fire was able to extinguish the fire swiftly, KCSO reported.

Evidence at the scene and further information discovered during the Kootenai County Sheriff Traffic Team’s investigation indicates Nunez had some sort of medical episode prior to the crash. There is no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, KCSO reported.
