Go local at farmers markets
Locavore: a person who makes an effort to eat food that is grown, raised or produced locally, usually within 100 miles of home.
It’s that season when it’s easier than ever to be a locavore, with several weekly farmers markets operating from spring to fall in Kootenai County.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, meats, cheeses, eggs, breads, baked goods, jams, honey, locally produced craft items and other tasty treats can be found at markets in Athol, Coeur d’Alene, Harrison and Hayden. Local musicians are often on hand to entertain while shoppers peruse the markets’ offerings.
