Carita Ida Johns, 98

Carita Ida Johns passed away on 9 June, 2018, one month after a party with family and friends celebrating her 98th birthday. She was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wis., where she met and later married Victor Johns. After the outbreak of World War II, the family moved to California to seek lucrative employment in the burgeoning war material manufacturing effort there.

After the war the family settled permanently in California. Carita had a successful career there in telephone information services, rising to a high management position with AT&T. Upon reaching retirement age in 1978, Carita fell in love with Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and moved here for the remainder of her life. She was active in her church, and for many years volunteered for both Hospice of North Idaho and the Kootenai Health hospital. Carita loved her family, gardening, dogs and her friends, and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her brother, Roger Schrameyer; sons, Jerry and Michael Johns; daughter-in-law, Linda Wagner; granddaughter, Jennifer Johns; and great-granddaughter, Sadie.

Carita is a Spanish word meaning “little jewel,” and that’s what she was!

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on 30 June, 2018, at the Unity Church, 4465 15th St., Coeur d’Alene, followed by a reception. All who knew and cared for her are welcome.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Carita’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
