Lakers hand Prairie a loss at wood-bat tourney

SANDPOINT — The North Idaho Lakers class A team of Sandpoint used a nine-run first inning to beat the Prairie Cardinals AA squad 17-7 in the Battle at the Beach U19 wood-bat tournament at War Memorial Field on Saturday.

Seth Villanpando scored two runs for Prairie (3-9).

SANDPOINT — Braden Gifford had three runs batted in and Brandon Gay went 4 for 4 with two runs scored as the Mountaineers class A team beat Orofino 15-0 at Sandpoint’s wood-bat tournament at Pine Street Field.

Jaret Taylor had three hits and three runs scored for Northern Lakes in the win.

Earlier, Taylor had three hits and three RBIs in a 10-9 loss to Shadle Park.

Northern Lakes (8-1) resumes tournament play today at 10 a.m. at War Memorial Field.
