CLASSIC GARAGE

1710 N. Fourth Street

Classic Garage has welcomed visitors to its annual open house for years now, said owner Brad Enders. The public can enjoy snacks and drinks while they admire the cars on display.

“People cruise in and we have our projects on display,” Enders said. “It’s kind of a nice camaraderie, especially for car collectors.”

A full-service restoration shop with seven employees, Classic Garage does all work in-house. About 20 cars are in the shop at any given time, and a number of projects will be on display to the public during Car d’Lane.

“We’re doing a ‘57 Ford Thunderbird right now,” Enders said. “It’s kind of rare. They didn’t make very many of them. It’s really valuable.”

He said the Classic Garage crew is working on an ambitious “nuts and bolts” restoration — meaning the car will be completely taken apart, inspected, and then restored or replaced, down to the smallest washer. When the restoration is done, the Thunderbird will be just as it was in 1957.

“It’s been a fun project,” Enders said.

PURVEYOR OF SPEED

214 Coeur d’Alene Ave.

A new performance-based shop owned by Josh Shields, Purveyor of Speed is wrapping up a remodel just in time for Car d’Lane. It’s a point of pride for Shields, and he said he looks forward to mingling with the public during the classic car weekend.

“I’ve been working on the car industry in this town for a long time,” he said. “I just split off on my own.”

Purveyor of Speed handles custom steel fabrication and machining, chassis work, full custom builds, and “anything performance based.” Shields said the shop mainly handles race cars and motorcycles.

“We’ll do anything from drift cars to race cars, and custom motorcycles, too,” Shields said. “Anything but pain and body work.”

Spectators can enjoy drinks, snacks and barbecue in front of the shop while they check out some of the current projects — including an award-winning supercar. One of the cars that Purveyor of Speed will display was a corner car at last year’s Car d’Lane.

“That car gets a lot of notoriety,” Shields said.

Because the shop is along the cruise route, Shields said, spectators will likely see the cars on display out front.
