Gary Lee Purdey, 80

Our dad, Gary Lee Purdey, passed away May 27, 2018. Having recently celebrated his 80th birthday, Gary was ready to run his final race. Born to John Purdey and Ethel VanSlyke, Gary spent the first years of life in the Seattle area, attending Highline High School. The youngest of seven siblings, Gary is preceded in death by Laurinda, Vivian, Ethel, John, Dan, and Clara Belle Purdey. Gary is survived by his four daughters, Laurie Niemeyer, Pamela Brookes, Sheila Purdey and Carrie Davidson; grandchildren, Dan Barrington and Benjamin and Erin Davidson; great-grandchildren, Mazie and Weston Barrington and half siblings, Marjorie Kent and Lyle Purdey.

Gary relocated to Republic, Wash., when his parents separated. He played varsity football and graduated from Republic High School in 1957. Gary spent time working as a miner in Republic, and as a contractor in Vietnam. He drove trucks for many years and retired from Georgia Pacific. He loved spending time outdoors, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling with friends and enjoying car races.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Republic Cemetery in Republic, Wash. Our family appreciates the love and care he received from his good friends and neighbors, Margie Anderson and her son, Billy. In addition to his family, Gary was loved and is survived by many great friends he made throughout his life. We are hoping you can join us in Republic on June 30th as we remember his life and share his stories.
