Gay sparks Northern Lakes to sweep

MOSCOW — Brandon Gay went 6 for 8 in two games and was the winning pitcher in the opener as the Northern Lakes Mountaineers swept the Moscow Blue Devils 8-3 and 18-7 in American Legion class A North Idaho League play Saturday.

Gay hit a two-run homer in the first inning of the opener for Northern Lakes (3-1 NIL), and finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. He also struck out seven in five innings. Jaret Taylor was 3 for 5 with three runs scored, and Colton Aragon went 2 for 3.

In the second game, Gay went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs. Braden Gifford hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and finished 2 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs. Taylor was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs, Dustin Smith 2 for 6 with two RBIs and three runs, and Aragon 2 for 5 with three RBIs.

Northern Lakes plays host to Sandpoint on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Lakeland High’s Gorton Field in Rathdrum.
