Hillsboro holds off Indians

SPOKANE — Spokane lost its second straight game, falling 3-2 to the Hillsboro Hops in Northwest League baseball in front of 6,812 at Avista Stadium on Saturday.

Seven Hillsboro (28-15, 4-1 second half) pitchers combined to hold Spokane (19-24, 3-2) to four hits, but walked seven.

Hillsboro opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by Joey Rose. Rose extended the advantage to 3-0 with an RBI double in the third, but was thrown out trying to advance to third to end the inning.

Spokane cut the deficit to 3-1 on a bases-loaded walk to Cristian Inoa to score Curtis Terry. Tanner Gardner scored one batter later for Spokane after Scott Kapers was hit by a pitch to make it 3-2.

The third game of the five-game series is today at 3:30 p.m.
