For a fascinating read about cougars, see “The Beast in the Garden: The True Story of a Predator’s Deadly Return to Suburban America” by David Baron. The author carefully documents the true story of a cougar who traumatized a town in the Colorado foothills near Boulder in the early 2000s.

Small domestic animals started disappearing, and people caught glimpses of a cougar in their streets and backyards. Eventually the cougar attacked a young man near a village school.
