COEUR d’ALENE — The mamas of the Coeur d'Alene Holistic Mom's Group are coming together to lift up a young foster mom and raise funds for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

"Moms want to support other moms," said Shelly Russell, outreach and event coordinator for the group. "We thought, 'What a great opportunity to be supportive and open our arms to someone in our community who can use the help.'"

Moms and non-moms alike are invited to the Coeur d'Alene Holistic Mom's Group Ladies Night Out at Mudge's Chocolates from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. The evening will feature wine, snacks and vendors as well as a baby shower for the foster mom, who is 23 and fostering her sibling's children.

"She has a 2-year-old — her niece — and found out there’s another baby on the way, so she’s getting a newborn and she has nothing for a newborn," Russell said. "She'll have both her nieces. It's cool they can keep them together."

Russell said proceeds from the event will also support North Idaho CASA's warehouse, where supplies are stored for foster parents in need.

CASA is a nonprofit that recruits, trains and supports a network of dedicated guardian ad litem volunteers to represent abused and neglected children.

The Coeur d'Alene Holistic Mom's Group was started by three moms: Dr. Amy Spoelstra, Dr. Hannah Layden and fellow holistic mom Liz Droesch. The group meets once a month to socialize while learning more about holistic living. The Ladies Night Out is the group's first big community event.

Admission is free. The first 50 attendees will receive a free glass of wine and raffles will be held throughout the evening. New baby gifts will be accepted at the event or they may be dropped off at Spoelstra Family Chiropractic, 214 W. Sunset Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

"We'll be happy with whatever we get," Russell said.

Mudge Chocolates is located next door to Spoelstra at 212 W. Sunset Ave.
