ISSUES: Susan, subdivision, school

Three comments:

1) Susan Nipp was absolutely the perfect person to be Grand Marshal of the Fourth of July Parade. Thank you Chamber for making this choice. Susan has made Coeur d’Alene and Kootenai County a better place and our children better readers. She has contributed to the library with her skills and talents to produce songs and Mudgy and Millie in our city. The entire Nipp family have been givers and supporters of town, county and citizens.

2) Dalton Gardens has a mayor and city council who threw in the towel and allowed the city ordinance of 110-foot frontage to be thrown under the bus by allowing an illegal subdivision to come into being. Dalton Gardens is a unique place which allows animals and apple trees and deer roaming the streets. It is a rural lifestyle that is being challenged. Citizens should either start a recall movement and remove the city council or hire an attorney and haul them back into court. Most citizens do not want bike paths, higher speed limits and more homes than legally allowed. I have family in Dalton Elementary and lived next to Dalton elementary with horse, cows, chickens and a wonderful family life for seven years. Why should we allow a compromise to take place in order to avoid more legal costs?

3) School District No. 271, keep your promise to the voters who supported the bond issue to get a new school in the Northwest part of the district. The old school site in Hayden being used now by Northwest Expedition Academy has a high dollar value because of its location. This school building is old, and can be gutted and remodeled. To trade this for another parcel so a new school can be built is not the wisest move. Suggested idea is to get a value on the old Hayden school as this can be commercial and would sell by the square foot. Sell the property if good value achieved with possession to buyer to occur at a date convenient for the school district (2020). This money could be used to build another school elsewhere.

The traffic is terrible at the old school, a real drawback to building a new school there. KEEP YOUR PROMISE, DISTRICT No. 271.
