COEUR d’ALENE — The last time an Everson girl was born, the planet was erupting in its first World War.

Woodrow Wilson was president, Charlie Chaplin debuted on the silver screen, Idaho was 24 years young and construction began on the Yellowstone Trail, North Idaho's first highway, which was to become U.S. Highway 10 and later Interstate 90.

But as of 11:51 Tuesday night, three generations and 20 boys later, Cora June Everson made a grand entrance and added a new chapter to the Everson family history book.

"She's just a little beauty," proud grandma Barbara Everson told The Press on Wednesday morning. "She is precious."

Cora was born in Kootenai Health to Brent and Melanie Everson of Coeur d'Alene and joins her two big brothers Andy, 10, and Riley, 3.

Brent's brother, Dave, has two boys, with a third on the way, and his brother, Joe, also has two boys.

"We have another boy coming, but Cora broke the cycle," Barbara said.

The family was elated yet somewhat skeptical when the couple revealed that they'd be having a baby girl in February.

"When they first found out it was a girl according to the ultrasound, his brothers didn't believe it," Barbara said. "They said, 'Yeah right, we'll wait until we see for sure.'"

Brent said he and Melanie were extremely excited when they found out they'd be making family history. His great aunt, Lola Everson, was born in 1914, the last female to join the paternal side of the family until Cora's birth.

"I was hoping for a girl, and Mel was too, she was so surprised. We both thought we were having a boy," Brent said. "She said the pregnancy felt similar to the last two."

The couple gave Cora the middle name of June after Brent's late grandmother, who dreamed of having more little ladies in the family.

"She was always hoping for a girl and she had three sons, and her sons had sons," Barbara said. "It's been absolutely thrilling. We're just amazed."

Brent reported that Cora and Melanie are doing great, "both happy, both healthy, everything has gone perfectly to plan."

"Everyone connected to the family is just so excited to finally have a girl," Brent said. "Everyone says we have to make sure she isn't too spoiled."
