Vikings, T-Wolves prep for Rumble

| January 26, 2018 12:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — In the deciding match of the night, Coeur d’Alene freshman Jackson Kohal just did what he was told.

In just seconds in fact.

Kohal won by pinfall in 46 seconds at 285 pounds, sending the Vikings past the Vallivue Falcons of Caldwell 44-39 in a dual at Coeur d’Alene High on Thursday.

“He’s a real young freshman and has been making some progress,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “I just told him to go out and do the things you’ve been coached to do and it was good to see him get a win. It was fun to see and a real confidence booster for him. I thought we wrestled really well as a team.”

Payton Keough (132 pounds) and Nick Dohm (170) also had pins for Coeur d’Alene, which hosts the North Idaho Rumble starting today at 3 p.m.

COEUR d’ALENE — Ricky Thomas (132 pounds) and Matthew Whitcomb (138) closed out a dual with pins for the Timberwolves in a dual against the Falcons of Caldwell.

Owen Hughes (285), Caden Hess (98) and Zane Monaghan (170) had pins for Lake City, which competes in the North Idaho Rumble today and Saturday at Coeur d’Alene High.

“Owen had been on a tear since the TerHark Cup (on Jan. 18 vs. Coeur d’Alene),” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “He got thrown onto his back early on, and not many heavyweights can fight off their backs, but he’s just a fighter and never gives up. For a sophomore, he’s come a long way. Matthew is making progress each week and going to be a good one for us.”
