Robert E. Hartz, 74
Robert (Bob) Edward Hartz came into the world on April 16, 1943, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. As a child he went to St. Thomas grade school and then on to IHM Academy. He attended The University of Idaho, where he played football and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He married the love of his life, Betty Gaye Bennion, on Feb. 4, 1967, and they spent more than 50 wonderful years together.
For 13 years Bob traveled with his family working for the Gillette Corporation, where they experienced living in many beautiful places including Seattle, Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia and New Orleans. He moved his family to Spokane, Wash., in 1983, and started Olsten Staffing Services with his wife, Betty Gaye, which they owned and operated until March 2016.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lodge 486, and was involved in many events as an active member of the Bud Bunch. His passion for cooking was equally matched by his ability, a skill that the people in his life were very grateful for. He took on various projects including building a beautiful home on the water, as well as hosting countless occasions and parties there. He enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Pend Oreille and Priest Lake. If he wasn’t out on the lake he was taking in the view.
He spent many hours hunting and camping with his family. He was a gifted amateur photographer and had a keen ear for music. One of the greatest prides in his life was his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They filled his heart with joy and a twinkle in his eye for the wonders of the future.
Bob passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at his home on Lake Coeur d’Alene, surrounded by his wife and family. He had an incredibly full and blessed life. His heart and home were kept open and awaiting visitors to greet them with a warm smile and a cold drink. He was always ready with strong and powerful words of wisdom followed by the biggest and best hug. The days and nights spent laughing, creating everlasting memories, and going on adventures with his friends and family were unlimited.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; father, Clinton and sister, Arlene Quam. He is survived by his wife, Betty Gaye; son, Michael Hartz of Coeur d’Alene; daughters, Stacy Gansar of New Orleans, Kristy Trapani of Spokane and Toni McCoy of New Orleans; his grandsons, Clint and Nathan Hartz and Griffin Gansar; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Waldram and Bobette Bartholomew; brother-in-law Rodney Bennion; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as a multitude of beloved friends.
Beyond the shadow of a doubt, Bob loved his life, friends and his infinitely blessed family. You know what we loved about him? EVERYTHING!
