Perry wins at 184
OREGON CITY, Ore. — Levi Perry went 4-0 at 184 pounds for North Idaho College, beating Nolan Badovinac of Simon Fraser 7-3 in the championship match of the Clackamas Open on Sunday.
“Levi went out there this weekend and really wrestled mature, smart matches,” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “He kinda blew threw the competition today. He had a close one in the quarterfinals (a 1-0 victory over Kevin Henry of San Francisco State), but he kept his composure.”
Thomas Stevenson (157) and Nicholas Hara (133) each placed fourth for NIC. Damian Trujillo (285) won his last four matches and went 5-1, but because of a new six-match limit instituted this year, was done for the day instead of wrestling in the match for third and fourth place.
Whitcomb also had praise for Micah Tynanes-Perez (197), who was pulled out of redshirt on Saturday, and for Cooper McCullough (157) and Hudson Mauseth (174), whose stay in the tourney was ended by losses to teammates.
Esco Walker (125, elbow), Austin Iorga (141, shoulder) and Brent Evans (157, knee) were held out on Sunday. But Whitcomb said they should be ready on Thursday when NIC hosts Simon Fraser on sophomore night.
The Cardinals then wrap up the regular season Friday at Eastern Oregon in La Grande, then prepare for the West District tournament Feb. 11 in Oregon City.
