POLITICS: Everyone's an independent
The deep divide in our country between Democrats and Republicans seems to be getting deeper. I’m not sure if coming together on most issues is possible. My suggestion is to dissolve both parties and instead call everyone “Independent.” It would have an immediate equalizing effect, if even just psychologically.
People would tend to vote for a person rather than straight party. Perhaps people would see the importance of a candidate’s character and reputation.
We should not have to be born labeled with a certain political or religious identity. Where’s the freedom in that? Calling us all “Independent” politically may seem like a radical idea, but it beats the alternatives of civil war or living under a dictatorship, which seems to be the direction in which we are now headed.
