Timberlake handles Moscow's press for win
BOYS
SPIRIT LAKE — Instead of turning the ball over, Timberlake turned Moscow’s full-court press into points, and that early success carried the host Tigers to a 47-39 nonconference win Thursday night.
Timberlake (6-9) opened a 14-9 lead after one quarter, and extended the margin to seven at halftime. The Tigers then withstood a second-half run to hold off the Bears (5-10) and avenge an earlier loss in Moscow.
“We handled their press — we broke it and were able to score easy baskets off it, so they pulled it off,” Timberlake coach Michael Scott said. “We made them play the game at our pace.
“I’m just proud of how hard the boys played. This is the team I remember from earlier in the season — running down loose balls, getting key rebounds,” Scott added. “We really needed this — it was a quality win.”
Seniors Jordan Hardy (13 points) and Colton Counts (11) led the Tigers, who travel to St. Maries next Thursday.
Derek Rauch-Edwards scored 15 points for Moscow.
