Peters

Carl A. Peters, 77

Carl was born on March 26, 1940, in Butler, Pa., and passed on to glory with the Lord on Jan. 12, 2018, at home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was the firstborn child to Carl Anthony Peters and Margaret Augusta (Groves) Peters of Butler, Pa.

Carl grew up in the Chicora and Butler area, but lived in many different places including New York state, California, Minnesota, and lived many years in Colorado, before moving to Idaho in 2002. Once he experienced the Rocky Mountains and Western vistas, he never wanted to live elsewhere.

Initially gifted in drawing and photography, he attended an art school in upstate New York, but later pursued a bachelor’s degree in theology, graduating from Denver Baptist Bible College in 1983. He worked in many different vocations around the U.S. including sign-making and design, painting, youth pastoring, heavy equipment operating, driving for the transportation department at Keystone Resort in Colorado and eventually authoring five novels and several short stories.

He was married to Mavis Irene Henry of Youngstown, Ohio, on July 27, 1962, until her death on May 5, 2009. During their 47 years together, they traveled many times across the United States and shared in numerous Christian ministries.

They were blessed with five children and nine grandchildren: Heidi (Duane) Peters Nesset, Wyatt and Grace of Billings, Mont.; Dr. Bob (Rachel) Peters, Tyrell (Rachel) Peters and Alisa Peters of Post Falls, Idaho; Gene (Joanna) Peters of Bartlesville, Okla.; Kelby (Jimmy) Peters Zimmerman of Billings, Mont.; Trevor of Bartlesville, Okla.; Tim (Emily) Peters, Thomas and Elijah of Cordova, Ten.; Heather Peters of Tacoma, Wash.

In addition, he is survived by his current spouse of seven years, Susan (Melchiore) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; his brother, Jim (Evelyn) Peters of Duncansville, Pa.; his sister, Judy Makray of Butler, Pa. and youngest sister, Linda (Darrel) Switzer of West Sunbury, Pa.

His interests included wildlife photography, mountain hiking and snowmobiling, hunting and fishing, archery, making wooden arrows, creative writing (poems and stories), reading, and boasting in Jesus! He built and authored his own website (www.carlpeters.com) and posted blogs about God’s work in his life and those around him. He was a ‘giver’ at heart, always willing to give toward the needs of others.

Carl and his family request that any charitable donations be made in his honor to Samaritan’s Purse (general fund) at: www.samaritanspurse.org.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Hayden Bible Fellowship, 9140 Reed Road, Hayden, Idaho. Burial will follow at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum, Idaho.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Carl’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
