ONTARIO, Ore. — RayQuan Evans and Aushanti Potts-Woods each scored 17 points, and North Idaho College eased away in the second half to beat the Treasure Valley Chukars 85-71 in Northwest Athletic Conference men’s basketball Saturday.
Charles Williams added 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots for NIC (12-4, 2-1 NWAC), which led 39-38 at halftime.
“We played really well in the first half, but got into some foul trouble and had three starters sitting,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “One of the big things was having Charles Williams back and he hit some big shots for us in the first half and really kept the momentum going.”
Tyus Jefferson led Treasure Valley (5-9, 1-2) with 15 points.
NIC plays at Big Bend on Monday in Moses Lake, Wash.

MISSOULA, Mont. — His team back on the mats for the first time in over a month, Cardinal coach Pat Whitcomb admitted he wasn’t sure what to expect as NIC faced the NAIA Mountaineers of La Grande, Ore., at Sentinel High.
What he got was some sophomore magic.
Behind wins from Brent Evans (149 pounds), Thomas Stevenson (157), Levi Perry (184) and Damian Trujillo (285) — all sophomores — the Cardinals beat the Mountaineers in their first match since a home dual with Warner Pacific on Dec. 10.
“Our sophomores really came through for us and took control of their matches, which was nice to see,” Whitcomb said. “Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get with a layoff like that, but it was a big plus to have those guys step in and wrestle the way they did.”
NIC (6-5) will face Southwestern Oregon and Umpqua on Friday in Roseburg, Ore.
