BOAT: Project needs help

| January 3, 2018 12:00 AM

I have just acquired a hit-n-miss marine water cooled motor with transmission and shaft and prop used back in the day about 1902 in a small work boat to deliver the mail on Lake Coeur d’Alene. I acquired it from the estate of the late Herman Meyer of Spokane. The plan now is to actually build a replica of the boat that it was used in and bring a bit of local history back.

Looking now for anyone who has some information about the early days of boating on Lake Coeur d’Alene. I would really like to have a photo of the boat this engine came out of. The serial number is 2281. It is a Cushman 4 H.P. RPM 950 water cooled, gas, marine set up, built back in the early 1900s by the Cushman motor works of Lincoln, Neb.

This would be a great project for some of your young students at the local trade schools to get involved with. We really need to keep this history alive for us and our kids to all enjoy. If we get lucky, we may even score a grant of some kind to help us get this done! Contact Ron Dayton of Sunwood Tool and Die, 28281 N. Ramsey Road, Athol, ID 83801, 208-755-5586, [email protected]. We would really like to bring this back from the past with a new replica wood boat like they ran on the lake back in the day.
