V. Elaine Bomar, 80

V. Elaine Bomar, of Athol, Idaho, peacefully passed away on Feb. 21, 2018. Elaine lost a swift, but courageous bout with cancer at the age of 80. She was able to remain at home until her final two days, but then quietly passed in the presence of love at the Schneidmiller House.

On Nov. 12, 1937, Elaine was born to Albert and Alice Grunert in Newport, Wash. She was raised with her two siblings, Kenneth and Janice, in Spirit Lake, Idaho, until she graduated there in 1955. After graduation, Elaine worked at Old National Bank in Spokane, Wash., until she married her high school sweetheart, George Bomar on July 8, 1956. They were married for 56 years until he passed away on May 30, 2012.

Once married, Elaine became a homemaker, working hard on their ranch taking care of livestock and selling milk and eggs to the locals. Always using the honor system, anyone could drive to their milk house to get what they needed by just leaving their money in the jar. It was likely that when the neighbors would stop in, they’d find Elaine baking her famous pies and always ready with coffee. The door and gates were always open, welcoming, and most often, giving. She was always continually lending a hand to anyone that asked and was always sending someone away better off than when they came!

Although the ranch was quite a feat, Elaine’s greatest accomplishment was her family! She had five children with George: Kenneth, Rick, Lynnette, Raymie, and George Jr. Along with her kids, she was blessed with four grandkids: Michelle, Sarah, Steven and Tony, as well as four great grandkids: Sharleen, Ridge, Ember and Paisley.

Other things Elaine loved were her dogs, her garden and flowers, crocheting, reading, a good old fashioned date to a movie theatre, shopping for treasures and antiques, and most of all TO DANCE! She started with high school drill team and continued throughout her marriage with George, only to be dancing now in Heaven with him once again!

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother. She is survived by her sister, her best friend, Janice Scott. There’s no doubt about the void that Elaine has left, and that every day she will be missed. What will always be remembered is her amazing spirit, her admirable strength, her beautiful laugh, her classic red lipstick and her eternal love.

No services will be held. Elaine and the family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Schneidmiller House.
