Ex-Coeur d’Alene boys coach

Leiss resigns at Sandpoint

SANDPOINT — After posting a 24-63 record in four years at the helm, Sandpoint High boys basketball coach Kent Leiss tendered his resignation on Thursday.

After posting just three wins in the 2016-17 season, the Bulldogs started this year strong, reeling off five straight wins over Priest River, Bonners Ferry, Timberlake, Davenport and Deer Park, before losing the final 14 games to finish 6-16.

Sandpoint has not qualified for state since 2009. The Bulldogs have made it to state just twice since 1978.

Leiss coached the Coeur d’Alene boys for nearly 10 seasons (2003-13), going 140-91 with three trips to state, including a runner-up finish in 2008.
