St. Maries runs past Grangeville

TROY — Jackson Pritchard scored 14 of his game-high 17 points in the first half as the top-seeded St. Maries Lumberjacks beat the No. 2 seed Grangeville Bulldogs 67-40 in Game 1 of a best-of-3 2A District 1-2 championship series on Thursday at Troy High.

St. Maries led 37-18 at halftime.

“We knew we had to get out and run and tried to keep the tempo up,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “I don’t think they’re quite as deep as we are, so we knew we had to keep the pressure on them.”

Kevin Duffield had 11 points and seven rebounds, Kaden Hammond seven assists and three steals and Glover Buell 12 points for St. Maries (16-4), which faces Grangeville in Game 2 tonight at 6 at Troy High.

Grangeville is 15-6.

RATHDRUM — Day Day Higgins scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the third quarter, leading the second-seeded Knights past the third-seeded Tigers in the 1A Division II District 1 tournament at Lakeland High.

“We were just really aggressive of the start of the game,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said. “We wanted them to concentrate on getting shots up in the first quarter, and they were going in. Overall, we played really good.”

Kenyon Spottedhorse and Bryar Sanchez scored 14 points each for Lakeside (13-8), which faces Genesis Prep in Friday’s championship game at 4 p.m. at Lakeland High.

Gryphon Todd scored 18 points for Mullan, which finishes 5-10.

RATHDRUM — Jonny Hillman and Kon Ajang scored 15 points each for the top-seeded Jaguars in a win over the fourth-seeded Wampus Cats in the 1A Division II District 1 tournament loser-out semifinals at Lakeland High.

Hillman had six steals and five rebounds, Ajang 10 rebounds and Smith Mwinuka 13 points for Genesis Prep (18-4), which faces Lakeside in the championship game on Friday at 4 p.m. at Lakeland High.

Wade Stevens scored 14 points for Clark Fork, which finishes 3-11.
